🧾 NVNTRY Type: Mobile App Tech Stack: Flutter, Hive, Dart Description: NVNTRY is a personal inventory tracker designed to allow users to have the organization and peace of mind that businesses gain with their inventory tracking systems. The app includes features like dark mode, category sorting, and persistent local storage using Hive. What I learned: State management in Flutter Working with NoSQL local databases Creating responsive mobile UIs Demo: Future features will include: - Adding images to items - Barcode scanning for faster item entry - Analytics to help users determine when they'll need more of something. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 🛠️ Dev Log 05/20/2025: Today I focused on implementing 4 things: - Set up an android emulator to test on a virtual mobile device. - Refactored the home screen UX to improve category navigation: -The screen now shows 1 category at a time, with swipeable tabs to navigate between them. -I wrapped the original Scaffold in a DefaultTabController, adn dynamically build a TabBar from the user's stored categories. -Items are filtered based on the currently displayed category. -Added a search feature for quickly locating items. -Automated data population when the user has no stored items - this makes testing much easier. Overall, I’m really enjoying the development process in Flutter. The VSCode extension makes debugging simple, and I love how it visually connects closing brackets to their corresponding blocks — it’s been a huge help when dealing with nested widgets.

🎮 Movemint Type: Indie Game Prototype Tech Stack: C++, OpenGL Description: Movemint is a fast-paced, physics-based movement prototype inspired by characters such as Spider-Man. Focused on fluid momentum and player control, the prototype will eventually explore innovative movement mechanics in a 3D environment. While the most recent stable version of the game is a simple 2D world with limited functinality, this ambitious project will continue to teach me new concepts like 3D graphics rendering, and reinforce previous learnings such as manual memory management and linear algebra. Recently, it has also taught me lots about segmentation faults. About me: My name is Dausen (pronounced like Dawson) and I grew up on the outskirts of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I'm a big fan of craft beer, cats and dogs, good food, cars, playing guitar, camping, and travel. My work background is mostly in the service industry in Tuscaloosa, providing me with a passion for connecting with guests and learning people's stories, as well as accomodating people's wants and needs to the best of my ability. On top of this, I also studied Computer Science at the University of Alabama, receiving a Bachelor's Degree in December of 2024. As I was growing up, I fell in love with playing video games and being out in the woods (there wasn't much else to do in rural Alabama). My passion for video games led me to building a PC at the age of 13 with birthday and Christmas money from the past couple of years. Although this thing was nothing special, it opened the door to a whole new passion. What started out as modding Minecraft and Left 4 Dead 2 eventually turned into a passion for technology, understanding how it works and manipulating it to make my own life easier. My first PC build in July of 2014. This thing had an NVIDIA GT420 in it! When I started college, I had friends who were electrical engineering majors, so naturally I followed them in their studies. After a year of EE classes and me still having close to 0 understanding on how to solve a circuit, I decided it was time for a pivot. I remembered taking CS100, which was required for EE majors, and how rewarding writing and debugging software felt, and decided to swap to computer science. After several years of grinding classes (and over a year of not taking them due to a pandemic), I earned my degree in computer science and am now looking to change careers from the service industry to software development.
